Language and Performing Arts

Choir students have been busy singing each week to learn the repertoire for this year’s festival. In Week 10 in Term 2 four students travelled to Leigh Creek Area School with Mrs Schulz and Mrs O’Neill for a combined rehearsal with students from LCAS and Marree Aboriginal School. It was lots of fun, and a great learning experience singing with a larger choir and being able to hear both soprano and alto parts together. They also sang two songs for the LCAS F-2 class. Another Covid-19 casualty, the Festival of Music has had to cancel the usual performances in Adelaide and has removed the commissioned work from the repertoire. This work will be included again in 2022. We have been learning the 7 remaining songs, including choreography for Cherokee Morning Song and some AUSLAN signs for Not Perfect.

In place of the Adelaide concerts an hour long movie is being made by the Festival organisers of places and landscapes in SA and with students there that can be shown when local choir groups sing at assemblies, or if smaller local concerts are able to be arranged. There is the possibility of having a concert in Leigh Creek in Week 10 this term if restrictions allow it. In the meantime students, just keep singing, singing, singing…
