Instrumental Music Studies

This term began with a bang! Not drums or cymbals but a visit from seven members of the Adelaide Youth Orchestra led by our former teacher (and their conductor) Kate Mawson. We met some old faces and a couple of new ones, and shared some getting to know you games. Interesting what some people would take to the moon, including instruments of course. The orchestra members worked with our students to help them with technique and music according to the instruments that each plays, then the whole school was treated to a short concert. HAS students joined in with the songs they were learning and the orchestra tested everyone with a few themes that were very familiar and enthusiastically enjoyed. What a beautiful sound! A great effort by our music students who were all present and remembered their instruments.
During the term we have made progress learning new notes and music, songs such as Cool as a Cucumber, with Blossom Blues sounding good and We Will Rock You gaining momentum. Teacher Jo Pike visited in week 6, giving an extra hand with maintenance and techniques, and it was great to hear the students all play together as a band.
Jo is hoping to organise another visit soon, and planning has begun for the Sounds of the Southern Flinders workshop and concert which will be held next term in November at Booleroo Centre District School.
Remember to bring your instruments and music folders on Mondays for Lessons, and to practise a few times each week. Practise leads to progress, and that makes you feel great!!
