Hawker Area School and its staff are committed to providing quality learning experiences in a safe environment and giving students every opportunity to achieve their personal best. We also encourage students to reach their full educational potential whilst shaping their own positive school culture and equipping them to make positive contributions in the wider community.

Hawker Area School recognises that all teachers are vital sources of support and, together with families, are the foundation to the success of all students. The core subjects offered at the school are English, Mathematics, Science, HASS (Humanities and Social Sciences), Art, Health and Physical Education.

Our staff keeps abreast of best practice in teaching through ongoing professional development to not only effectively deliver curriculum but also engage and inspire students.

Student Leadership

'SMaSH' - Hawker Area School Student Representative Council.

Our SMaSH committee meets twice a term. The meetings are designed to review information from classes including suggestions for school activities, policy changes and fundraising. This structure of student leadership within the school will assist students to further develop their leadership skills, voice their opinions, share their concerns and promote school spirit.

This is also the forum for general students’ grievances to be discussed.

Each year the SMASH Committee raises hundreds of dollars for various charities by taking part in selling merchandise and organising casual days at the school.

CRAZY Hair Day

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Tomorrow is SRC Crazy Hair Day! Students are invited to come to school with their wildest and most creative hairstyles. Whether it’s colorful, spiky, or full of surprises, we can’t wait to see everyone’s unique creations!

A gold coin donation is welcome, with all proceeds going to support our SRC initiatives. Let’s make it a fun and memorable day!

Remembrance Day and IMS lessons

IMS Lessons

Just a reminder that we have IMS lessons tomorrow mornign so if parents of these students can make sure they bring their instruments in with them that would be great.

Remembrance Day

Our students will be attending the Remembrance Day ceremony tomorrow morning at the Memorial. We will be leaving just after 10.30am to participate in the ceremony, which starts at 10.45am. All students should wear their school uniform for this event.

School Community Award Nominations

Please find attached to this message the nomination form for the Rowan Ramsey School Community Awards for 2024. As the form states Nominations are open to a staff, parent or community member who has “gone the extra mile” dedicating and volunteering their time and skills to the school.

The award will be presented at our Presentation night on Tuesday December 10^th 2024. If you would like to nominate a staff member, parent or community member for this award please fill in the details and get the form to the school by email or delivery to the front office, as per the instructions on the form. For those that need it extra forms are also available for filling in at the front office.

Pupil Free Days Reminder

A brief reminder that the school has the following Pupil Free Days planned and approved for term four:

Monday November 4th – SA Curriculum Workshop and a review of our area of impact focus, wellbeing, followed by planning for 2025.

Monday November 18^th – An Inclusive Practices Day. Staff will be completing Professional Learning in Self Regulation in preparation for a program delivered in 2025 by the Self Regulation Service from the Department for Education. There will also be a workshop on One Plans, following on from new information and advice on these.
